Dr. Kern-Butler is a Licensed Psychologist seeing patients of all ages. With over 19 years of experience, Dr. Kern-Butler combines proven clinical skills with a patient centered strength based approach in treating a broad range of psychological issues including depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, relationship problems and behavioral/disruptive disorders. Dr. Kern-Butler is frequently sought out for her expertise in the treatment of trauma related issues throughout the lifespan. She also specializes in the assessment and treatment of Eating Disorders, behavioral issues in children and adolescents, post-adoption concerns, and life coaching. Dr. Kern-Butler is trained in a variety of solution focused treatment models including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, ACT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Play Therapy. She utilizes an eclectic approach with her patients to create an individualized treatment plan designed to achieve their specific treatment goals. In addition to therapy services, Dr. Kern-Butler provides comprehensive evaluations for educational services including learning disabilities and giftedness, diagnostic clarification, pre-surgical evaluations, and court ordered psychologicals.
Dr. Kern-Butler received her Doctorate degree from the California School of Professional Psychology where she developed a passion for working with childhood disorders. She spent 10 years as the lead Child and Adolescent Psychologist with Winter Haven Hospital and served as the mental health liaison for the Children’s Advocacy Center for 14 years. As part of a multidisciplinary team, Dr. Kern-Butler provided consultation and treatment recommendations to local agencies, schools, physicians, law enforcement, the judicial system, and other mental health treatment providers. Prior to joining Carter Psychology Center, Dr. Kern-Butler owned and served as director for a successful private practice in Central Florida.
