Dr. Johnson is a Licensed Psychologist who specializes in neuropsychological assessment. She has experience evaluating individuals across the lifespan, but specializes in the assessment of adults and elder adults.
Her primary focus is:
In addition to her work with older adults, Dr. Johnson has experience evaluating teens and young adults who have cognitive, emotional, and behavioral concerns due to ADHD, learning disabilities, neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders, traumatic brain injury, and other causes. She also has experience in conducting neuropsychological evaluations of surgical candidates (e.g., spinal cord stimulator, organ transplant, and bariatric surgery).
Dr. Johnson believes it is important to consider individuals within a broad and comprehensive framework. As such, her evaluation will consist of a clinical interview, interview of a collateral informant when available, review of available medical records, and an assessment of cognitive status, functional abilities, and emotional wellbeing. Involving not only the individual, but also their family, caregivers, and/or support system helps Dr. Johnson to gain a more thorough understanding of the individual and how they function in their environment. The result is a comprehensive picture of the individual and their particular strengths and unique challenges. Dr. Johnson will then provide the individual with feedback that is easy to understand. This feedback will include not only information about the findings, but also recommendations for how to proceed in light of those findings.
Dr. Johnson began her training at Florida State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She then attended the University of North Texas where she earned her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology. She completed her APA accredited internship at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL. There she specialized in neuropsychology, but received a breadth of training also rotating in the geropsychology, home-based primary care, and health psychology departments. Dr. Johnson then completed a two-year, APA accredited, post-doctoral fellowship specializing in outpatient and inpatient neuropsychology at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. As part of her fellowship she rotated weekly at the Methodist Rehabilitation Center, working with patients in the post-acute phase of recovery following strokes and traumatic brain injuries.
